BAND-MAID concert experience - Live at Melkweg Amsterdam

english

After the Japanese hard rock group BAND-MAID announced to go on another European tour in 2018, we decided to take this opportunity. We had experienced the band one year before in the Zeche Bochum and were big fans since then. Unfortunately the concerts in Germany were only in Berlin and Munich and both places were far away for us. An alternative was the date in Amsterdam. The venue Melkweg was well remembered by us from a concert of the group Scandal in 2016. The tickets could be ordered online.

The trip by car to Amsterdam was uncomplicated and the check-in at the Park In Hotel was done quickly. The tram line 19 took us to the centre of Amsterdam and from there it was only a few steps to the Melkweg. Although it should still take some hours until the concert, we decided to go to the venue immediately. We hoped to meet other fans there with whom we could spend some time in Amsterdam.

Passing the Melkweg early proved to be a stroke of luck as we were able to see the tour bus arrive and the band members get off. Without costumes we experienced the five women in a good mood. They wave to us and a handful of waiting fans. Afterwards we had to wait again. It should still take a few hours until the beginning of the event.

The VIP tickets we ordered were a good choice because they gave us access to the Melkweg one hour before the other guests and we didn't have to wait in the cold. Additionally there was a photo with the band for all VIPs. Always in groups of about 15 fans. After all the other visitors had arrived in the hall, the performance started with a little delay. Because the band was on tour for some time, the setlist was no secret. BAND-MAID started with the title Domination from their current album.

Like the year before, BAND-MAID didn't play an explicit encore at this concert. Singer Miku justified this at the concert in Bochum with the argument that the band had given everything during the performance. With a great setlist of 20 tracks, where the group played all their hits, it's hard to disagree. Although the band had already played some concerts in the days before, the women gave a great show. Unlike the Lovebites concert, which we had only seen days before, BAND-MAID had a good sound in the front rows.

It's easy to see that the popularity of BAND-MAID is increasing. Also in Europe. The concerts are getting bigger and so is the number of spectators. We met some fans in Amsterdam who followed the group through Europe and had tickets for the following concerts in London and Paris. The band should be granted this deserved success. It remains to be seen if we will be able to stay in the front row in the future. What is certain is that we will be part of BAND-MAID's next tour.
